Loratadine, an H₁ Antihistamine, Inhibits Melanogenesis in Human Melanocytes

Inhibitory effect of loratadine on mRNA and protein expression of MITF and tyrosinase. (a) Loratadine dramatically decreased the mRNA levels of MITF after 4 hr. (b) Loratadine reduced the protein levels of MITF and tyrosinase. NHM were incubated with 7.5 μM loratadine at indicated time. Whole-cell lysates were then analyzed by western blotting using antibodies against MITF and tyrosinase. Normalization was achieved by dividing the values for individual bands by the densitometry values for β-actin in the same lane. The value of densitometry was graphed with the mean ± SD. < 0.05.
