Montelukast, a Cysteinyl Leukotriene Receptor 1 Antagonist, Induces M2 Macrophage Polarization and Inhibits Murine Aortic Aneurysm Formation

Effects of montelukast on gene expressions of proinflammatory factors in TNF-α–stimulated macrophages. These macrophages were incubated for 12 hours in culture medium containing montelukast. Gene expression levels were determined by quantitative RT-PCR and standardized to GAPDH levels. Expressions of MMP-2, MMP-9, IL-1β, and NF-κB were significantly lower in macrophages cocultured with 20 μM montelukast (n=6) than in nontreated macrophages (n=6).
