Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Inhibits Phagocytosis of Apoptotic Cells by Airway Epithelial Cells

VEGF inhibition of phagocytosis was not associated with masking of PS on the apoptotic cell surface. AECs were inoculated into 12-well plates ( cells/well) and treated with curcumin for 72 h before incubation with PBS or 100 ng/ml, 500, or 1000 ng/ml VEGF for 6 h. After washing with PBS, the cell surface PS was assayed by flow cytometry. A representative flow cytometry assay is shown on the left and the figure on the right shows the assay results.
