Curcumin Inhibits Proliferation and Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition in Lens Epithelial Cells through Multiple Pathways

Curcumin inhibited the transcription of EMT-related genes induced by TGF-β2 in a dose-dependent manner. (a) Normalized mRNA levels of EMT-related genes (fibronectin, collagen I, collagen IV, etc.) in LECs treated with TGF-β2 (0, 5, and 10 ng/ml) for 24 h were detected by real-time PCR. (b) Normalized mRNA levels of EMT-related genes (fibronectin, collagen I, and collagen IV) in LECs treated with both TGF-β2 (0, 5, and 10 ng/ml) and curcumin (0, 5, and 10 μM) for 24 h were detected by real-time PCR. vs. the control, # vs. cells without curcumin pretreatment.
