The Role of Glutamine in the Prevention of Ultraviolet-C-Induced Platelet Activation

Glutamine impedes UV-C-induced integrin activation: TB-washed mouse platelets were stimulated with thrombin 0.5 U or exposed to UV-C, with or without 50 mM glutamine. After exposure, cells were incubated with PAC-1 antibody (as described in “Materials and Methods”) and were subjected to FACS along with control. The significant binding was seen with thrombin and on UV-C exposure; the presence of glutamine significantly shifts the peak left, suggesting a decline in the activation of integrin. Data are of one experiment, done in three different samples in one go.
