Comparison of results of different analysis approaches. (a) The pairwise analysis revealed 62 MUAs (red dashed line) out of 85 MUAs (black dashed line) to be significantly involved in pairwise correlations. The analysis with the test statistic using weighted spike time shuffling with increasing baseline detects an increasing number of MUAs (black curve). The number of MUAs detected by both methods is indicated by the red curve. The blue curve indicates the number of MUAs detected by but not by the pairwise analysis, that is, are not involved in any significant pairwise correlation.
