2D Geometry Predicts Perceived Visual Curvature in Context-Free Viewing

In complex images, local curvature permits generating strong three-dimensional shape effects. Curvature processing can be made easier or rendered more difficult when a local curve (target) is embedded in such a complex scene context of multiple curves. Contextual effects of this kind are explained in terms of long-range neural interactions (see [23], for review).
