Computational Intelligence for Intelligent Information Interpretation

Description

Scene interpretation plays an important role in our daily lives. Based on the measurements from different kinds of sensors, the volume of information can be dug out to help us make decisions and find solutions based on scene interpretation. Modern computational intelligence algorithms provide us with concise but efficient tools for scene interpretation. Machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms can be properly developed and used for the processing of signals, images, videos, etc. Furthermore, the information interpreted from different sources of data can be used for both military and civilian applications.

However, it is still a challenging task to conduct intelligent scene interpretation with high efficiency and precision. Firstly, the measurements from different kinds of sensors have different properties. As a result, some general and adaptive algorithms should be considered for intelligent interpretation. Secondly, the interpretation should not be on a shallow level. That information with high values and focused targets in the scene should be dug out. Hence, the automation level should be further enhanced with the help of advanced computational intelligence algorithms. In recent years, intelligent optimization and deep learning theory have been successfully employed in various fields like biomedical signal processing, image classification, video tracking, etc. A further step should be planned to design suitable computational intelligence algorithms for different kinds of data so the interpretation of scenes can be more reliable.

This Special Issue aims to attract newly proposed computational intelligence algorithms for scene interpretation. Research on recently developed deep learning methods is encouraged. We welcome original research and review articles.
