Increased Duodenal Iron Absorption through Upregulation of Ferroportin 1 due to the Decrement in Serum Hepcidin in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C

<div>FPN and DMT1 mRNA expression in the duodenum. Relative mRNA expression levels of FPN (a) and DMT1 (b) in the duodenum were measured by Taqman real-time PCR. FPN mRNA in the CHC group was significantly upregulated compared with control participants (P = 0.0091; Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney U test). Relative mRNA expression levels of DMT1 were measured by Taqman real-time PCR (b). There was no significant between-group difference (P = 0.8369; Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney U test).</div>
