The plots of a Gaussian and an exponential distribution and of the result of their convolution (EMG) at , , and . The plot may also be regarded as showing the result of the deconvolution of an EMG into its exponential and Gaussian components. The Gaussian component may significantly extend to the negative domain even if (EMG) may seem to be all nonnegative, which may be especially misleading if data points at small , for example, within 5 time units, are lacking.
