Spatial Pattern, Complexity and Resilience of Urban Network Structure 2022

Description

With long-term pressure and short-term impact of economic and technological globalisation, regional and urban resilience have become important issues in research. As a new organizational form of a regional urban system, the resilience of the urban network generated by flow space has emerged as a popular research subject. The relationship between cities tends to be networked, flat, and multi-polarized. The urban network, as a new form of regional spatial system organization, has gradually become a research focus and paradigm. To more accurately measure regional resilience, urban network structural resilience refers to the ability of cities to restore, maintain, or improve the original network characteristics. It has important roles to play when responding to regional shocks.

Without the support of a safe urban development environment, urban prosperity and vitality may enhance the vulnerability of the city. It may even cause a short-term shock. Some of the most important questions that we need to ask ourselves are: How can complex network theory be used to evaluate the resilience of the urban network structure? How can theoretical concepts be translated into the resilient development of regions? Past studies on urban and regional resilience have focused on theoretical exploration. Resilience has mostly been assessed in network-related research only in light of the structural properties of the network. The information about network flow has mostly been ignored. An accurate and comprehensive structure of the resilience of the flow space of urban networks at a large regional scale needs to be determined.

The aim of this Special Issue is to collect original research and review articles talking about the complexity and resilience of urban network structure. Submissions about theories, practical applications and research methods are encouraged.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • City network spatial pattern
  • Complexity of city network spatial pattern from the perspective of flow space
  • Key technologies for flow space data
  • Urban network structural resilience
  • Big spatio-temporal data and urban network analysis
  • Urban/regional network complexity, resilience and geographic calculation
  • Data-driven modeling of urban network structure complexity and resilience
  • Evolutionary modeling of urban network structure complexity and resilience
