Coexistence of Antiphospholipid Syndrome and Heparin-Induced Thrombocytopenia in a Patient with Recurrent Venous Thromboembolism

Procedure 1

The Sydney classification criteria for antiphospholipid syndrome.
Diagnosis of APS
At least one clinical criterion and one laboratory criterion
(1) Clinical criteria
(a) ≥1 episodes of venous, arterial or small-vessel thrombosis confirmed and documented.
(b) Pregnancy-related morbidity:
# ≥1 unexplained deaths of a normal fetus at or beyond the 10th week of gestation.
# ≥1 premature births of a normal neonate before the 34th week of gestation
# ≥3 unexplained consecutive spontaneous abortions before the 10th week of gestation
(2) Laboratory criteria
(a) IgG and/IgM anticardiolipin antibodies present in medium or high titer on two or more
occasions, at least 12 weeks apart.
(b) Lupus anticoagulant on two or more occasions at least 12 weeks apart
(c) IgG and IgM β2 glycoprotein antibodies present in medium or high titer on two or more
occasions, at least 12 weeks apart.
