(a) The interdigital nerve runs consistently along the bottom side of the toe passing under the deep transverse metatarsal ligament at the distal metatarsal. (b) Metatarsophalangeal joint instability can curve the interdigital nerve with the distal end of deep transverse metatarsal ligament as a flexion point predisposing the nerve to impingement by the adjacent metatarsal heads.
