A dilated mostly gas-filled structure (arrows) consistent with focal megaesophagus is present cranial to the cardiac silhouette on the lateral view (a). On the VD view (b) the aortic arch is located within the right aspect of the cranial mediastinum (*), the trachea is displaced to the left at the level of the aortic arch, and there is mild widening of the cranial mediastinum (arrows).
