Coding and Noncoding Gene Expression Biomarkers in Mood Disorders and Schizophrenia

Table 3

The expression of five treatment response genes and one housekeeping gene was examined by qPCR. Results are shown below. Three genes were significantly altered in responders compared to nonresponders. The fold-change (FC) and values after normalizing to the housekeeping gene SLC9A1 are shown below. The ΔCt was calculated by subtracting the Ct of the gene of interest from the Ct of the housekeeping gene SLC9A1. Fold change was calculated as 2−(treatment responder mean − treatment nonresponder mean) for qPCR data and 2(treatment responder mean − treatment nonresponder mean) for microarray data. The direction of fold change between diagnosis groups using microarray and qPCR data was consistent for 100% of the genes. A total of 62% of attempted validations were significant when gene expression was measured by qPCR.
