Dermoscopy and Skin Cancer

Description

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in humans and the incidence of both, nonmelanoma skin cancer and melanoma, continues to increase worldwide. First line chemotherapeutic and radiation treatment of metastatic skin cancer remains largely ineffective, highlighting the need to improve early diagnosis of all forms of skin cancer. There is evidence that dermoscopy, an inexpensive, rapid, and safe noninvasive tool, significantly improves the early diagnosis of skin cancer compared with the naked eye examination. However, in many nations dermoscopy is still not standard of care in the diagnosis of skin cancer. The focus of this special issue will be on the role of dermoscopy in the diagnosis of melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer. The topics to be covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Training programs in dermoscopy in different nations
    • University setting: studies, opinions, proposals, and perceptions
    • Private setting: studies, opinions, proposals, and perceptions
    • Online: studies, opinions, proposals, and perceptions
