Proposed model for the inhibitory effects of Ocimum gratissimum extracts on the oxidative stress-induced cell apoptosis by affecting the mitochondrial pathway. Our data demonstrated that Ocimum gratissimum extract attenuates the H2O2-induced apoptosis of H9c2 myocardiac cells, which may be due to the inhibition of the tBid formation as well as the enhancement of PI3K/Akt survival signaling which includes the increase of antiapoptotic Bcl-2.
