Protective effect of C. cinereum against degenerative diseases: Relative increase in the level of free radicals (due to metabolic and environmental oxidative stress) in cells with respect to cellular antioxidants leads to intracellular cascades that result in cellular degeneration and consequent degenerative diseases. Lower part of the figure shows the role of C. cinereum extracts in sustaining equilibrium between free radicals and antioxidant systems.
