Evidence for Inhibitory Effects of Flupirtine, a Centrally Acting Analgesic, on Delayed Rectifier K+ Currents in Motor Neuron-Like Cells

Excessive accumulative inactivation of during repetitive stimuli in the absence (upper) and presence (lower) of 3  M Flu recorded from motor neuronal NSC-34 cells. Currents were obtained during a 20-sec repetitive depolarizations to +40 mV from a holding potential of −60 mV. The uppermost part indicates the voltage protocol used. Note that in addition to the inhibition of amplitude, Flu increases the rate of excessive accumulative inactivation of elicited by repetitive stimuli.
