Inhibition of Acute Phase Inflammation by Laminaria japonica through Regulation of iNOS-NF-κB Pathway

Figure 3

Changes in histological profiles of the ventrum pedis skin in carrageenan control (a, b), dexamethasone (c, d), LJE 0.1 g kg−1 day−1 (e, f), and LJE 0.3 g kg−1 day−1 (g, h) treated groups. Note that marked increases of skin thicknesses due to edematous changes were detected by carrageenan treatment with increases of inflammatory cell infiltrations quite similar to those of dorsum pedis skins. However, these increases of skin thicknesses and inflammatory cell infiltrations were effectively inhibited by treatment with dexamethasone and with two different dosages of LJE 0.1 g kg−1 day−1 and 0.3 g kg−1 day−1, respectively. Arrow indicates total thicknesses measured. Arrow heads showed infiltrated inflammatory cells. All H&E stain; scale bars = 160 μm.
