Inhibitory Effects of Traditional Herbal Formula Pyungwi-San on Inflammatory Response In Vitro and In Vivo

Figure 10

Immunohistochemistrical profiles of ventrum pedis skin, taken from control and CA-treated rats. Note that marked increases of COX-2-, iNOS-, and TNF-α positive inflammatory cells were detected in CA rat ventrum pedis skin, as compared with control, quite similar to those of dorsum pedis skin, respectively. However, in this experiment, these increases of COX-2-, iNOS-, and TNF-α-immunoreactive cells were effectively inhibited by treatment with dexamethasone and two different dosages of PWS 0.3 and 1.0 g/kg, like those of dorsum pedis skin. (a) control, (b) CA, (c) CA and dexamethasone treated rats, (d) CA and test PWS 0.3 treated rats, (e) CA and test PWS 1.0 treated rats, CA: carrageenan, PWS: Pyungwi-san, COX-2: cyclooxygenase-2, iNOS: inducible nitric oxide synthase, TNF-α: tumor necrosis factor-α. Immunoreactive cells were stained using ABC methods. Scale bars: 80 μm.
