Inhibition of carrageenan-(CA-) induced paw edema by PWS. PWS was administered to rats at an oral dose of 0.3 and 1.0 g/kg/day for four days prior to induction of paw edema. Paw edema was induced by subcutaneous injection of a 1% solution of carrageenan dissolved in saline (0.1 mL per animal) into the right hind paw. The swelling volume of the paw was measured 0–4 h after carrageenan injection. Dexamethasone (DEXA, 1 mg/kg, p.o.) was used as a positive control.
