Baicalein, Ethyl Acetate, and Chloroform Extracts of Scutellaria baicalensis Inhibit the Neuraminidase Activity of Pandemic 2009 H1N1 and Seasonal Influenza A Viruses

Time-of-addition inhibition of S. baicalensis flavonoids on pandemic 2009 H1N1 virus yields. Baicalein, baicalin (a), apigenin, or chrysin (b) was incubated with MDCK cells during (simultaneous treatment) and 1 h after (postinfection treatment) infections of pandemic 2009 H1N1 influenza A virus. Virus yield was determined real-time RT-PCR; value was calculated by subtracting value for viral load in cultured media of treated infected cells from value in those of mock-infected cells.
