Trans-β-Caryophyllene: An Effective Antileishmanial Compound Found in Commercial Copaiba Oil (Copaifera spp.)

Antiamastigote activity of C4 oil, volatile (VF), nonvolatile (NVF) fractions, and β-caryophyllene (CAR). Murine peritoneal macrophages were infected with Leishmania amazonensis for 24 h and then treated with the indicated concentrations of the compounds. Amphotericin B (AmB) at 1 μg/mL and 0.5% DMSO (vehicle) were evaluated as controls. Results from two experiments in triplicates are shown as % killing ± SEM in relation, the untreated control. relative to DMSO.
