Protective Effects of Huang-Lian-Jie-Du-Tang against Polymicrobial Sepsis Induced by Cecal Ligation and Puncture in Rats

HLJDT treatment suppresses the production of proinflammatory cytokines in septic rats. Rats were orally administrated with 270 mg/kg of HLJDT or vehicle at 2 h prior to CLP or sham surgery. (a) Blood samples were collected at 0, 4, 12, and 24 h after CLP, and plasma levels of TNF-α, IL-1, IL-6, IL-17A, and IL-10 were measured with ELISA. (b) Liver, lung, and kidney were harvested at 24 h after CLP, and the relative mRNA levels of cytokines were analyzed by qRT-PCR. Data in (a) and (b) are mean ± SEM of 6 rats/group, * versus CLP control, # versus sham control.
