Pomegranate Supplementation Protects against Memory Dysfunction after Heart Surgery: A Pilot Study

Working memory, immediate memory, and delayed memory all improved at least slightly from baseline at both short- and long-term time points for the pomegranate group. Scores for the placebo group on these domains did not change significantly from baseline. Retention scores for the placebo group were impaired compared to baseline 2 weeks after surgery and continued to decline for up to 6 weeks after surgery. Retention scores for the pomegranate group were significantly improved from baseline at both 2 and 6 weeks after surgery ( ).
