Antileishmanial Activity of Medicinal Plants Used in Endemic Areas in Northeastern Brazil

Figure 2

Direct antileishmanial effect of H. pectinata, A. vera, R. graveolens, P. glomerata, and C. ambrosioides against L. amazonensis promastigotes. The height of the bars indicates the number of parasites at each concentration of plant aqueous extract compared with the control experiment containing only the solvent DMSO. The plant aqueous extracts were added at concentrations of 100, 10, and 1 μg/mL in cultures of L. amazonensis promastigotes for 4 days. After 4 days, the extracellular load of L. amazonensis was measured. The experiments were performed three times independently, and each count was performed in triplicate. The data are reported as the means ± S.E.M. Differences with values <0.05 were considered significant ( ; ).
