Si-Jun-Zi Decoction treatment reduces intestinal mucosal injury. (a) and (b): intestinal segments from the ileum were excised and fixed in 4% paraformaldehyde and embedded in paraffin blocks. We stained 4 μm thick sections with H&E. Intestinal mucous membrane damage and Chiu’s histopathological score were evaluated. The H&E staining (a) and the damage score (b) are shown. In panel (c), the serum level of D-lactate is shown. In panel (d), the level of intestinal mucins, examined by Coomassie brilliant blue G250 staining, is shown.
