Catalpol Modulates Lifespan via DAF-16/FOXO and SKN-1/Nrf2 Activation in Caenorhabditis elegans

Figure 2

Effects of catalpol on the lifespan of wild-type N2 nematodes. Worms were grown in the NGM agar plate at 22°C in the absence or presence of catalpol after embryo isolation or 7th day of adulthood, respectively. The number of worms used per each lifespan assay experiment was 36–57 and three independent experiments were repeated (). The mortality of each group was determined by daily counting of surviving and dead animals. The lifespan of catalpol-treated worms after embryo isolation (a) and 7th day of adulthood (b) was plotted as a survival curve. The mean lifespan of the catalpol-treated worms after embryo isolation (c) and 7th day of adulthood (d) was calculated from the survival curves in (a) and (b), respectively. Statistical difference between the curves was analyzed by log-rank test. Error bars represent the standard error of mean (S.E.M.). Differences compared to the control were considered significant at and by one-way ANOVA.
