Identification of Plants That Inhibit Lipid Droplet Formation in Liver Cells: Rubus suavissimus Leaf Extract Protects Mice from High-Fat Diet-Induced Fatty Liver by Directly Affecting Liver Cells

Effect of gallic acid on lipid droplet formation in Hepa 1–6 cells. The cells (20,000 cells/well) were seeded on a 96-well microtiter plate and incubated overnight. The next day, 0.6 mM oleic acid conjugated to BSA and gallic acid (250 μM in the medium) was added and further incubated for 24 hr. After incubation, the cells were fixed and oil droplets were visualized by Oil Red O staining. Lipid droplets stained by Oil Red O are seen as red particles. Control: without added gallic acid.
