Activation of p53/miR-34a Tumor Suppressor Axis by Chinese Herbal Formula JP-1 in A549 Lung Adenocarcinoma Cells

JP-1 inhibits the proliferation and colony formation of A549 cells but only slightly affects the growth of HS68 primary fibroblast cells. (a) The cell viability of A549 cells after treatment with JP-1 for 72 h was measured by SRB binding assay. Data (mean ± SE) are expressed as a percentage compared to the control. (b) After 48 h of treatment, the effect of JP-1 on A549 cells was examined by phase-contrast microscopy, scale bar = 50 μm. (c) Colonies formed by control and JP-1-treated A549 cells were assayed after 10 days of incubation. (d) Representative picture of colonies formed by the cells described in (c). Cell viability and colony formation data are expressed as mean ± SE and analyzed as described in Section 2.
