Anticancer Activity of Ipomoea purpurea Leaves Extracts in Monolayer and Three-Dimensional Cell Culture

Caspase-3 activity in A-549 (a) and MDA-MB-231 (b) exposed to etoposide and extracts of I. purpurea leaves. The cells were treated with DMSO 0.1% (negative control), etoposide (positive control), and methanol and chloroform leaves extracts at the IC₅₀ values for 12 and 24 h. The caspase-3 activity in the cell lysates was monitored by Ac-DEVD-pNA chromogenic substrate at 405 nm. Each value is the mean of three independent experiments ± SD. ^∗Statistically significant differences between the treated cells compared with control according to Student’s t-test ( < 0.01).
