Vasorelaxant and Antioxidant Effects of Aframomum pruinosum Gagnep. (Zingiberaceae) Seed Extracts May Mediate Their Cardioprotective Activity against Isoproterenol-Induced Myocardial Infarction

Figure 6

The aqueous (AE) and ethanolic extract (EE) of Aframomum pruinosum seeds administered orally prevented the rise in cardiac myeloperoxidase (MPO); panel (a) and nitric oxide (NO); panel (b) content following isoproterenol (ISO) induced myocardial infarction. Animals were treated for two weeks before induction of myocardial infarction with isoproterenol. Data are expressed as mean ± SEM (n = 5–6). ; ; statistically different compared to naive. ; ; statistically different compared to ISO. Numbers refer to the dose in mg/kg.
