Pharmacological Potential of Natural Products Against Cardiovascular Diseases

Description

From time immemorial, plant extracts and bioactive compounds isolated from plants have been used for cardiovascular health. The wide variety of biologically active compounds isolated from plants for many centuries is being used as crude material or as pure compounds for treating various cardiovascular diseases. Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are one of the leading causes of mortality and incapacity worldwide. Medication therapy options will vary depending on the particular type of CVD. Many patients are intolerant of the therapeutic options available. On this premise, the emerging need for new drug options is highlighted, where those obtained from medicinal plants stand out, which are immeasurable sources of thousands of secondary metabolites with significant therapeutic potential.

Until a few decades ago, medicinal plants were used with impressively little knowledge about their actual properties. In most cases, the biological role of plant extracts and phyto-compounds is not really known. However, now studies are oriented towards an in-depth analysis of the valuable compounds in these plants which can be used for treating CVD and knowledge about their mechanism of action.

The rationalization of ethnomedicinal uses of plants is an important area of research in complementary and alternative medicine. This Special Issue encourages scholarly work indicating the mechanism of action of plant extracts and compounds present in these extracts against cardiovascular diseases. This Special Issue aims to collect original research and review articles regarding research into plant extracts, and bioactive compounds used against cardiovascular ailments.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assessment of pharmacological properties of plants against cardiovascular diseases
  • In-vitro studies about the evaluation of plant extracts and bioactive compounds against cardiovascular diseases
  • In-silico studies of bioactive compounds against cardiovascular diseases
  • Plant-derived nanomaterials against cardiovascular diseases
  • Identification and characterization of phytochemicals from medicinal plants used around the world against cardiovascular diseases
  • Systematic reviews and meta-analyses on the potential of plant-based remedies for treating cardiovascular diseases
  • Basic research - in vivo and in vitro study, network pharmacology study, bioinformatics study, and pre-clinical research for treating cardiovascular diseases
  • Critical reviews of the historical, clinical, and legal status of medicinal plants used in the management of cardiovascular diseases
