Medicinal Plants in the Prevention and Treatment of Chronic Diseases

Description

Medicinal plants have a vast array of bioactivities and are used in the management of infectious to lifestyle diseases from the dawn of civilization. Chronic diseases like obesity, diabetes, heart diseases, and cancer are a global problem today. However, most of these diseases were largely preventable. Though the emergency medicine saves thousands of lives every day, the preventive medicine on the other hand can help to prevent chronic diseases from occurring, rather than trying to treat after it is too late. Our purpose is to unify, simplify, and present that knowledge of prevention and treatment by the use of medicinal plants and some nutraceuticals with the help of our colleagues.

We encourage also contribution by original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the pathology underlying diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), cancer, and neurodegenerations, the development of strategies to prevent and treat these conditions, the evaluation of outcomes, the epidemiological and clinical studies, and the study of medicinal plants and their active compounds in degenerative disease research. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Natural substances as lead compounds in chronic and degenerative diseases research
  • Natural products involved in the prevention of chronic diseases
  • Ethnopharmacological studies of medicinal plants used the treatment of chronic diseases
  • Herbal pharmacotherapy and phytochemical studies
  • Chronic diseases: functional foods and nutraceuticals
  • Studies involving pharmacological and toxicological mechanisms of action of medicinal plants used in the treatment and prevention of chronic diseases
  • Epidemiological and clinical studies on efficacy of medicinal plants
  • Studies of the consequences of the use of plant crude drugs
  • Advances in genetics of chronic diseases
  • Recent advances in prevention and controlling chronic diseases
