Applications of Complementary and Alternative Therapies in Neurodegenerative Diseases
Description
In recent years, much attention has been dedicated to developing new potential pharmacological therapies in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s Disease (PD), Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Multiple system atrophy (MSA), etc.
Though many studies have tested newly developed drugs as well as conventional ones, the therapeutic efficacy of current treatments is very limited. Many studies have been published on the use of complementary and alternative medicines in treating these diseases but without elucidating a clear therapeutic mechanism. In addition, the basic study of these treatments is very limited.
The aim of this Special Issue is to collate a range of clinical research and experimental studies on molecular, cellular, and systems biology including neurotransmitters, synaptic plasticity, neurocytotoxicity, glial cells, and animal models in relation to complementary and alternative therapies, including natural products, acupuncture, and herbal formulas, for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Review articles are also welcome.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
- Complementary and alternative therapies in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases
- Herbal formulas, acupuncture, and natural products for treating neurodegenerative diseases studied at the level of molecular, cellular, and systems biology, including neurocytotoxicity, glial cells, and animal models
- Evidence-based pattern syndrome in complementary and alternative therapies for neurodegenerative disease treatment
- Pharmacogenomic evaluation of complementary and alternative therapies for neurodegenerative diseases
- Natural compounds as effective neuromodulators of neurotransmission and neurodegenerative diseases
- Network pharmacology of complementary and alternative therapies for neurodegenerative diseases and molecular-level modulation
- Cell and animal models in complementary and alternative therapies for neurodegenerative diseases
