Pain and Inflammation: Update on Emerging Phytotherapy, Zootherapy, and Nutritional Therapies

Description

Pain is the most common health challenge that drives patients to consult physicians. Pain and inflammation often accompany each other; hence the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for the treatment of the two ailments. Despite the arrays of therapies available for the treatment of pain, it is still not tamed and the currently available drugs have their adverse effects. This is thus an impetus for further research on alternative therapies for treatment of the ailments. Some of the notable drugs (such as aspirin and morphine) for the treatment of pain were derived from plants. Hence the benefits of medicinal plants and animal products in the treatment of pain cannot be overemphasized. Therefore there is the necessity to continue to discover medicinal plants with analgesic potential especially those based on ethnopharmacological information.

Researchers are therefore invited to submit original research and review articles on plant extracts natural and animal products with potentials for treatment of pain and inflammation.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Evidence-based screening of plants and plants derived products for analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities
  • Evidence-based screening of animal derived or related products for analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities
  • Description of novel screening methods for previously screened active principles
  • Evidence-based screening of nutraceuticals with analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects
  • Investigation into the mechanism of action of medicinal plants used in the management of pain and medicinal plants
  • Evaluation of safety of medicinal plants with analgesic and anti-inflammatory potentials
  • Bioactivity guided studies of active ingredients with potential for analgesic and inflammatory drug discovery
  • Clinical trials of plants and animal derived products with respect to pain and inflammation
