Propolis: Properties, Application, and Its Potential

Description

Propolis is a honeybee product known for its biological and pharmacological properties. It has been extensively used in traditional medicine for centuries. Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans used propolis as an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and cicatrizing agent. Throughout the Middle Ages, propolis was not a popular topic. The knowledge of propolis survived, however, in traditional folk medicine. It was used mainly on the territories of Eastern Europe. We welcome papers on the history of propolis and its application in the past.

Studies on the composition of propolis as well as its biological and pharmacological properties and mechanisms of action are especially welcome. We are also interested in articles that show the history of the research on propolis and describe the outstanding researchers and research centres.

We invite investigators to contribute original research and review articles that will explore aspects of the biological activity of propolis and its possible applications as well as its safety or toxicity.

We expect papers on pure compounds contained in propolis, their biological activities, and potential medical application. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • History of propolis
  • History of the research on propolis
  • Chemical composition of propolis
  • Activity of propolis
  • Application of propolis in medicine
  • Application of propolis in dentistry
  • Application of propolis in veterinary medicine

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ecam/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/ecam/prop/ according to the following timetable:
