Recent Technology and Protocols in Specialized Intensive Care Units

Description

In intensive care units, patients can be treated, nursed and rehabilitated simultaneously, providing isolation places and equipment for patients with severe illness or coma, providing the best care, comprehensive treatment, combination of medical care and nursing, early postoperative rehabilitation, joint care and exercise therapy and other services. With the development of medical techniques, there have been specialized intensive care units for more professional treatment of patients. Typical specialized intensive care units include pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), medical intensive care unit (MICU), cardiovascular intensive care unit (CICU), surgical intensive care unit (SICU), emergency intensive care unit (EICU), neurosurgical intensive care unit (NSICU), and so forth.

For specialized ICUs, there have been advanced techniques developed recently for better clinical healthcare, such as advanced bedside monitors, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), central monitors, multifunctional respiratory therapy machines, anesthesia machines, electrocardiographs, defibrillators, pacemakers, infusion pumps, microinjectors, oxygen inhalers in standby state, endotracheal intubation and tracheotomy, etc. In hospitals with better conditions, there are also blood gas analyzers, microcomputers, electroencephalographs, B-ultrasound machines, bedside X-ray machines, hemodialysis machines, intra-arterial balloon counterpulsation devices, routine hematuria analyzers, blood biochemical analyzers, etc. The advanced techniques have greatly improved the ICU cares.

The aim of this Special Issue is to invite the submission of original research and review articles focusing on various topics related to advanced techniques in different intensive care units.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serious trauma treatment with advanced technology and protocols
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation treatment with advanced technology and protocols
  • Organ failure treatment with advanced technology and protocols
  • Severe shock, sepsis, and poisoning
  • Acute heart failure in practise
  • Metabolic disorders in vivo
  • Advanced treatment for organ transplantation
  • Clinical reports
  • Nursing protocols
  • Cancer therapy with advanced technology and protocols
