Update on Temporal Lobe Epilepsy

Description

Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is the most common form of focal epilepsy that may secondarily generalize. About one-third of patients with TLE may become resistant to medical therapy and require surgical treatment. Epilepsy surgery has been shown to be effective in the treatment of medically intractable TLE. The key to treatment of medically intractable TLE is early identification of patients with medically intractable TLE.

We invite authors to submit original research articles as well as review articles that seek to define and characterize TLE and its treatment. These articles explore aspects of epidemiology, EEG, MRI, pathology, psychology, neuropsychology, and medical or surgical treatment of TLE. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Epidemiology of TLE
  • Clinical features of TLE
  • Anatomy of the temporal lobe
  • Pathological findings in TLE
  • Pathogenesis of TLE
  • EEG findings in mesial TLE (mTLE)
  • EEG findings in neocortical TLE (nTLE)
  • Anatomical MRI findings in TLE
  • Role of voxel-based morphometry MRI in TLE
  • Role of functional MRI (fMRI) in mapping language functions in TLE
  • Role of fMRI in mapping memory functions in TLE
  • Role of simultaneous EEG-fMRI in TLE
  • Role of single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) in TLE
  • Role of positron-emission tomography (PET) scan in TLE
  • Role of MR spectroscopy (MRS) in TLE
  • Role of magnetoencephalography (MEG) in TLE
  • Role of voxel-based morphometry (VBM) MRI in TLE
  • Role of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in TLE
  • Psychiatric issues in patients with TLE
  • Medical management of TLE
  • Surgical management of TLE
  • Management of TLE in the elderly
  • Management of TLE in children

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/ert/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
