Functions of PS and PS-C4BP complex. PS circulates in free form (about 40%) and in complex form with C4BP (about 60%) in plasma. C4BP is comprised of seven chains and a chain, and PS binds to the chain. APC proteolytically converts factors Va and VIIIa (Va/VIIIa) into inactivated factors Va and VIIIa (Vi/VIIIi) in the presence of free form PS, but not the complex form PS with C4BP.
