Advances in Diagnosis and Treatment of Biliopancreatic Diseases

Description

Biliopancreatic diseases encompass a wide range of benign and malignant pathologies that have stimulated the creation of multidisciplinary groups interested in the management of affected patients. Molecular biology, advances in cross sectional imaging, and laparoscopic surgery have made possible early diagnosis of pancreatic neoplasms, mutation-target chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer, and minimally invasive treatment of biliary lithiasis, among several other advances. However, these novel tools have also raised new concerns: the management of incidental pancreatic cysts, the best approach to suspected and unsuspected choledocholithiasis, and the value of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for potentially resectable biliopancreatic neoplasms, just to mention some of them.

The special issue intends to be the communication channel of those multidisciplinary groups and their researchers. Basic, translational and clinical papers will be welcomed as well as review articles dealing with controversial issues. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Acute relapsing pancreatitis
  • Experimental models of acute and chronic pancreatitis
  • Prevention of ERCP-induced pancreatitis
  • Diagnosis of early chronic pancreatitis
  • Detection of early pancreatic cancer in high-risk patients
  • Genetic abnormalities and pancreatitis
  • Diagnostic algorithm for obstructive jaundice
  • Endoscopic advances in the diagnosis and treatment of cholangiocarcinoma
  • Genetic therapy of pancreatic cancer
  • Advances in the molecular/laboratory diagnosis of pancreatic cancer
  • Management of incidental pancreatic cysts
  • Neoadjuvant therapy for biliopancreatic malignant disease
  • Palliative treatment of advanced pancreatic cancer
  • ERCP in patients with altered bowel anatomy
