CSRR-loaded line used as permittivity sensor (a) and insertion and return loss (b). The reactive elements values are = 6.81 pF and = 2.42 nH. Note that in the top view the metallic strip of the microstrip line is not visible since it is covered by a piece of slab with the same parameters as the substrate. This has been done in order to have a homogeneous material surrounding the line strip, resulting in an embedded microstrip line, required in this application.
