Methadone affects mitochondrial Ca²⁺ uptake in a respiratory substrate-dependent way. Oxygen uptake by isolated liver mitochondria was determined using a Clark electrode in the presence of 5 mM succinate or 2.5 mM glutamate/2.5 mM malate as substrates.
