The graph in (C) summarizes a quantification of the fraction of SGs within the cortical 500 nm region of three interphase and three metaphase cells from different EM preparations. In interphase cells, 70 ± 3% of the total number of SGs ( ) were within the cortical region, compared to only 13 ± 4% of total SGs ( ) in metaphase cells ( , Student’s t-test).
