Images (a)–(e) show canal walls at 1, 3, 6, 8, and 12 mm from the apex. In groups 3 and 8, smear layer removal was observed at 6, 8, and 12 mm, though less extensive than in groups 2 and 7 (Figure 3) and 4 and 9 (Figure 5). (a) is at 1 mm from the apex, (e) is at 12 mm from the apex.
