Clinical and Technical Considerations of Luting Agents for Fixed Prosthodontics

Description

One of the critical final steps in fixed restorative dentistry is the cementation of a restoration. After approximately one hundred and fifty years the choice of a luting agent has perhaps become more difficult, rather than easier, based on the availability of a large number of cements. While initially zinc phosphate cement was the only choice, the modern dental practice has a plethora of possibilities. The objectives of this special issue are to provide a review of luting agents and articles that provide up-to-date research on the many properties that determine long-term success. We aim to provide information that will lead the practitioner to making a choice that is based on logic, rather than the “daily routine choice”. We invite authors to submit original research articles that provide useful information to the practitioner. We are interested in articles that cover any of the potential topics; however, authors are not necessarily limited to these suggestions. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Laboratory tests
  • In vivo tests
  • Research on physical properties
  • Research on retentive properties
  • Biocompatibility tests
  • Cell culture tests
  • Luting agents for implants
  • Luting agents for all ceramic restorations
