The patient has a large-bore peripheral intravenous line inserted, which is used for medication and fluid administration, as well as sampling for parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. The patient is awake, and a fan is used to blow room air gently toward his or her face to minimize the sensation of claustrophobia.
