Synergistic Effects of Dantrolene and Nimodipine on the Phenylephrine-Induced Contraction and ACh-Induced Relaxation in Aortic Rings from Diabetic Rats

Figure 5

Effects of a 30 min incubation period with 50 μM dantrolene, with 50 nM nimodipine, and with both drugs in combination on the endothelial-independent relaxation of aortic rings from control (a) and STZ diabetic rats (b). Aortic rings were precontracted with 0.1 μM phenylephrine (PHE) before the addition of 1.0 μm sodium nitroprusside (SNP) to directly relax the vascular smooth muscle. The values shown are the means ± SEM of 6 to 9 animals per group. Note that the drugs, either alone or in combination, did not modify endothelial-independent relaxation in control or STZ diabetic rats.
