Seismic Waveform Inversion by Stochastic Optimization

Figure 10

Error between the inverted and true model for the SA approach without averaging for various batch sizes and the full problem, (a) without noise, (b) with noise (SNR = 20 dB), and (c) with noise (SNR = 10 dB). We get qualitatively similar results, compared to the full inversion, with for noiseless data and data with 10 dB of noise. For very noisy data (20 dB), we need a larger batch size. Although the SA approach requires roughly the same number of iterations as the full inversion, the iterations are much cheaper. For , we model the data for only one simultaneous source per iteration, compared to 61 for the full inversion.
